The Players Preview: Xander and the Hole in My Wall

Gary Woodcock and I are getting hot at the right time. We both head into The Players on a high note as he finished 5th last week and I went 4x. I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: There is a point in the year when I become one with the slate or event and the plays just flow through me. We are either rapidly approaching this point or have arrived.

The last thing I’ll say before getting into the plays is that my week would have been much bigger had I not fucked up the Triangle and Power Hour plays. I only had 4 lineups cash but they were high scoring. Triangle and Power Hour seemingly began gurgling on their own balls upon realizing that they had made the cut.

It’s time for the plays.

Is it finally Rahm’s time? I think I’ve said he is the best player in the field for multiple weeks now and he hasn’t paid off one time. I’ll have some Rahm and Justin Thomas, but focus more heavily on the $9k range. Last week, Rory deflated quicker than Joe Buck’s penis when the Packers game ends each week. He is my fade of the week. The weather is going to be wild and he will simply not be able to handle the elements mentally.

The two best plays on the slate are in the $9k range. Hidicki Matsuyama is the first – I’ll mention the other later. Hidicki profiles well for this course with a sweet swing and great ball-striking ability. Speaking of ball striking, Bryson DeShambles withdrew again even though he claimed he was trying to be ready for this tournament. He is also backpedaling faster than prime Deion Sanders on the Saudi Super Golf League after Phil the Thrill got shit on worse than Odell to Stafford post-Super Bowl for his comments.

Phil, we degenerate DFS players can understand your plight of trying to make as much money as possible, but holy shit I don’t even know what prompted those comments.

Dick Berger appears to be the most popular play in the $8k range, but I will likely go elsewhere. Brooks Koepka is the most talented golfer here and he really likes to bring his python out during these big-time tournaments. He also has good course history (4/4 made cuts). The other play I like here is Shane ‘The fucking Brain’ Lowry, once again. He is coming off of a second-place finish at the Honda Classic and has been playing well lately overall.

It’s time for the $7k range. This is where the money is made. We are deep in the well this week. Play the fucking hits. Woodcock, Cockrack, and Gooch are easily the best plays in this range. Woodcock seems to have cemented that he is fucking back. The only concern here is that Gooch fucking imploded on Sunday last week. As for Cockrack, I don’t think anything really needs to be said. He’s basically a lock to be in the pool each week.

Russell Henley is the other play I like here. He has been on an absolute tear and you’ll be able to get him at around 10% ownership, likely as a result of his very shaky course history. He’s only made the cut once in his last 5 tournaments here.

The name I like most in the $6k range is Patton ‘The Jizzer’ Kizzire. He’s a bit of a hail mary, but you’ll get him at under 1% ownership. He’s coming off two straight made cuts at the Genesis Invitational and the Arnie last week.

Another name I like is Thomas Pieters. He’s never played in this tournament, but made the cut in a good field at the Arnie last week.

The final play I’ll mention in this range is Harold Varner III. He has a good history at this event (4 made cuts in the past 5 years) including a top 10 finish. The only concern here is that he has been absolutely ass shit this year, but as usual, there’s no better time to bounce back. My face when I wake up to Harold +7 on hole 3:

It’s time for The Players CGG. This week it’s Xander Schauffele. The weather is going to be absolute donkey dick. Rain, wind, etc. It’s going to be important to be able to keep it together through extended delays and shuffling tee times. Xander’s game is great for this course and he has had one of the highest scrambling percentages in the entire field over the past few weeks.

I’m risking it all this week – nothing would be better than waking up Monday morning with a light pole shaped hole in my wall as a result of the eruption.

I’ll be back next week.
