Last week Robby Shelton birdied 18 to deliver my second 6/6 single entry of the year. I had absolutely 0 faith in it. Woodcock butchered half of the course and Cock Palmer forgot how to play golf on day 4. I still profited because of Homa’s win, but it could have been a much bigger day.
This week’s field is absolutely abysmal. I can hardly look. Live look at my DraftKings bankroll after this week:
Get in the fucking car. We are going to Denny’s. I thought about this one long and hard. Maverick McNealy is the obvious play in the $9k range, but I’ll play Denny McCarthy instead at 1/3rd of the ownership. This field is so bad I’m going to try to get a bit lower ownership overall assuming higher variance. When I get the chance to play the fucking hits I play the fucking hits. McCarthy’s recent results have been uninspiring (T32 and T50 to start the year), but he finished 12th at this tournament last year. He’s known for his mental strength while putting and it’s going to take a lot of it to account for the shockwaves his 15-pound cock causes each time he swings.
My favorite play in the $8k range is Big Dick Nick Taylor. Course history comes at a premium this week and you won’t find anyone better in the $8ks than Big Dick Nick. He’s finished T14, T39, and 1st in his last 3 at this event. He finished top ten at the Sony Open but followed that up with an MC at The American Express last week. I’ll play him on course history alone. Taylor after each birdie:
You can almost call this next play chalk (7-10% ownership projection), given that he’s $7.2k, but I’m playing Troy Merritt. The theme of the week is course history and this guy unleashes the python on an annual basis at Pebble Beach. He’s never finished worse than 25th and has 2 top 10s in the last 5 years here. That history combined with the price, I don’t think you can possibly fade.
This $6k range is an absolute disaster this week. It’s hard to know where to look without seeing complete ass shit. One of the only names that stands out to me is Austin Smotherman. He finished T33 at this tournament last year and had a nice stretch last season where he had 2 top 25s in 4 events. I can’t really say I’ll have much of anyone under $7k. It’s not necessary when the field is this fucking bad and the plays get extremely thin down here.
It’s time for the Cash God Guarantee. I tried to think of another option, but this week it’s Jordan Spieth. I cannot begin to describe how much I didn’t want to do this but there wasn’t a better option and he’s somehow projecting to be less owned than Fitzpatrick/Hovland. He’s finished in the top 10 (including 2 top 3s) in the past 3 years. He gurgled his own sack and inexplicably missed the cut at the Sony Open two weeks ago, but I expect a big bounce back on a course he loves. Live shot of me when he hoists the trophy on Sunday evening:
I’ll be back next week.
