I took one look at this field and almost took the week off. Not only do we have 12k chalk Rahm, but we also have some incredible names in the top two price ranges. I was off last week due to the team format and still recovering from Zalatoris Masters WD. Onto the Mexico Open. It’s the year of Rahm Live shot of Rahm’s bag of trophy’s after this year:
I don’t think there’s any option but to just gurgle the $12k chalk this week. I can hardly believe I’m saying it, but Rahm is so much better than the rest of the field that it seems like it’s necessary. Last time I did this Rory performed a sack-sucking routine on himself and missed the cut. That was the last time I ever played him. Rahm knows how to win and won at this tournament last year. I expect him to repeat.
In the $9ks we are already in the dumpster. Eating the Rahm chalk means we may have to get a bit different elsewhere and I’ll start here. There is no fucking chance I’m playing Woodcock at $9.6k. Nicolai Hojgaard is the name I locked on. He’s projected at only 8% and has a few good finishes this year (T28 at the Valero Texas Open and 2nd at the Corales Puntacana Championship. He’s great leverage in a complete dogshit field. Live look at the living room when he finishes top 5:
In the $8ks look no further than Brandon Wu. He’s good leverage off of a chalky Jaegerbombs and has made 7 of his last 8 cuts. I suck off course history like no other and he finished runner-up to Rahm last year. I want to play Jaegerbombs badly, but Wu is the better play this week at $8.3k and under 7% ownership.
It’s Jizzer time. In the $7ks, look no further than Patton “Jizzer” Kizzire. I play him any opportunity I can and this week is one of the best. This is a fucking terrible field and he thrives in these. He’s missed two straight cuts but has made his last 5 of 7 overall, including a T10 at the World Wide Technology Championship and a T11 at the American Express earlier this year. He will bounce back in an ass field. Live shot of him approaching the 18th green:
I don’t have much conviction on any of these $6k golfers. The field is thin enough at the top and it becomes almost impossible down here. The only one I’ll play is Hank Ligbofa. He’s been largely fairly ass but has made 4 of his last 5 cuts and finished 29th at this event last year. There isn’t much to choose from down in this range and at 2% he will be almost unowned.
It’s time for the Cash God Guarantee. This week it’s Byeong Hun An. Back to the fucking well once again. His team finished T13 last week at the Zurich Classic a few weeks after he finished T6 at the Valero Texas Open. He hasn’t missed a cut this year outside of his WD at the Arnold Palmer in March. He’s taking his dick out week after week and this is finally the tournament where it all pays off. He won’t beat Rahm, but when he finishes top 5 there will be a cylinder-sized hole through my TV by way of my dick.
I’ll be back next week.
