3M Open Preview: Cam Davis Saves My DK Account

The Open was a complete fucking disaster. I haven’t been on this bad of a run in a long time. I have 42 cents left in my DraftKings account. I’m so fucked. Thankfully, Rory gurgled on his own cock once again, but my entry was swimming with the bots as a 3/6. I somehow landed on Niemann as my 6th and then had to watch Gooch and Kim eject on Friday. All in all it was an abysmal performance and I need a bounce back in the worst way. I do not want to get into the deposit rhythm again.

It’s time for the plays.

In the top range I’m going back to the Bigdicki well. I don’t think there’s much of a choice given there’s only 4 options. Finau has looked like complete dogshit in his last 2 tournaments and Sung Jae is the chalkiest golfer on the slate. Bigdicki finished top 10 at this event in 2019, but WD last year in his only other recent appearance. When I look at his recent results I get to midnight pretty quickly. He’s made 8 of his last 9 cuts, including 2 top 15s in his last 3 events. This is a much weaker field so he should be able to do it again.

It brings me actual pain to do this again, but I’m playing Justin Thomas. This is his last chance for me. His scorecard last week looked similar to mine at the local course after 10 beers. I have no idea what the fuck happened to him and now he’s talking about being worried about the Ryder Cup. Look pal that is the least of your worries when you’re bleeding strokes like a piece of roadkill. Having said all of that, I’m giving him one last chance to redeem himself this week. Live shot of Thomas resorting to making bets at the mini golf course after one more bad round:

Open the fucking mailbox. The postman is coming. J.T. Poston is my favorite play in the $8ks this week. At $8.4k and only 12% projected ownership he is one of the best values in the field. He’s finished well here in the last two years (T28 and T11). This is the year he breaks into the top 10.

This next name is one I haven’t played in a long, long time. It’s Taylor Pendick. He’s missed 3 of his last 5 cuts, but sandwiched between those missed cuts are a couple golden pebbles. He finished T14 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the start of July and finished in 6th at the Barbasol Championship two weeks ago. These are some dogshit tournaments, but the field this week isn’t much different than any of those. I expect him to have a good week at only $7.8k. Live shot of my living room when he slips into the top 15:

It gets ugly really quickly down here, but there was a name that instantly stood out to me. That name is Adam Long. In the $6ks I almost exclusively look at course/event history. You aren’t going to find one much better than Long’s. He’s made the cut in 3 straight years, finishing 2nd, T25, and T16. At $6.8k and a 1% ownership projection there isn’t much else to do but lock him in and start stroking.

It’s time for the Cash God Guarantee. This week it’s Cam Davis. I’m not sure I’ve ever played him, but it’s time to whip him out of the fucking garage. He’s been complete dogshit, missing 4 of his last 7 cuts. One of his only good results this year is a T7 at the PGA Championship in May. He’s finished well at this event in 3 straight years (T12, T28, and T16) and projects to be under 12% owned. It’s his time to finish top 5. He and I both need some sort of magic bounce back this week so it’s only right. My DK account after he carries me to a tournament win:

I’ll be back next week.
